OmniGuide Surgical Introduces Elevate ENT System

Surgical solution allows for faster cutting and reduces fatigue, company claims.

OmniGuide Surgical, a developer of advanced energy surgical products, has unveiled a new product for ENT surgeons.

The Elevate ENT System is an all new instrumentation set (with hand pieces ranging from 7 centimeters to 22 centimeters in length) customized for head and neck surgeons and laryngologists to provide hemostatic cutting, ablation, coagulation and blunt dissection on specific patients. The Elevate ENT System is the newest innovation utilizing OminGuide’s CO2 laser technology to provide increased control in the field of minimally invasive surgery. It is an enhanced flexible fiber and instrumentation system offering no-touch, highly precise CO2 laser tools for surgical procedures. The Elevate System is similar to the company’s BeamPath ENT System of surgical hand-held tools in head and neck surgery that have been used in nearly 100,000 surgical procedures primarily in the fields of gynecology and ENT.

The Elevate System provides surgeons with faster cutting speeds and improved ergonomics which incorporate counterweight technology to reduce fatigue and improve surgeon comfort. The new system also offers enhanced tactile feedback, blunt tissue dissection tips and single step fiber loading.

“The new Elevate Elite fiber is more reliable and delivers consistently higher power, a marked improvement over the current technology,” said Dr. Bruce Haughey, MBChB, F.A.C.S., F.R.A.C.S., Kimbrough Professor and Director, Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. “The new Elevate ENT System instrumentation has greatly improved ergonomics and the automated loading system makes it very simple for the operating staff to use.”

The Elevate ENT System offers the benefits of CO2 precision energy such as decreased thermal spread and ability to resect around critical structures but with enhanced power delivery and robustness, the company claims. In addition, the product offers a wide variety of instrumentation (11 pieces) that feature enhanced bend angles to help surgeons access hard-to-reach anatomy, and ease-of-use features such as active stop fiber loading and no-assembly required handpieces that ensures consistent tissue interaction.

“The new ELEVATE ENT System is an improvement from the current instrumentation on the market,” President/CEO Scott Flora noted. “By taking this step, we’ve been able to complement our flexible fiber technology with an instrumentation design which meets several currently unmet market needs.”

OmniGuide is leveraging the benefits of CO2 laser, known to be one of the safest, most effective and most precise surgical cutting modalities available to improve minimally invasive surgical outcomes. The company believes that the use of its system can improve a surgeon’s experience in the operating room and provide better outcomes for patients. CO2 laser energy causes less damage to tissue versus other advanced energy products and surgeons are more comfortable using this energy source around critical anatomical structures.

Cambridge, Mass.-based OmniGuide designs and manufactures its BeamPath Laser System based on proprietary technology invented at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and originally published in Science and Nature
